WILD! Science Perfume Laboratory Review

My 7yr old is a typical girlie girl! She is always asking for make-up and stealing my perfume, even though she has been told to wait until she starts secondary school!

So you can imagine her delight when we were sent Perfume Laboratory from WILD! Science to review! Now she could MAKE her OWN perfume!!!

WILD! Science is a range of collectable science kits with attitude! They are designed to have great play value while exploring important concepts and skills!

Now they have a science kit especially for girls! Perfume Laboratory!

Everyone loves beautiful smells. In fact we love beautiful anything and who doesn't love inventing their own special and secret scents that will make you the envy of your friends!

Using the clear and easy to understand instructions, and the special sample cards of "base perfumes" you can create your own special blends of perfume. To do that, you'll be measuring and mixing, extracting, separating  filtering and more! Just like a real scientist in a real perfume factory!

Then once you've created your own very special scents, you can experiment with scented crystals, sublime slime, scented note paper and many more activities. The kit contains enough material for the experiments to be repeated several times, making it a gift that lasts!

All the ingredients are very low allergen, although they do suggest you perform a patch test to make sure that the perfume doesn't irritate your skin.

But what I love most about this kit, is that not only is it lots of fun, and my 7yr old certainly had plenty of it, it's also educational and supports the following UK curricula, giving them a headstart in school!

Sc 1 Scientific Enquiry
* Explaining, linking cause and effect.
* Test ideas using observation and measurement

Sc 2 Investigative Skills
* Ask questions, make predictions
* Use sample equipment and materials, control risks
* Observe, measure, compare and conclude.

Sc 3 Grouping and Classifying Materials
* Use particle theory to explain the properties of solids, liquids and gases, including changes of state and diffusion of gases (eg. perfumes)

Changing Materials
* Mixtures and solutions, suspensions and emulsions.

This has been a BIG hit with my 7yr old, who has had lots of fun creating her own special perfume and she cannot wait to share it with her friends. Her favourite though was watching the crystals grow as they absorbed the water. She also enjoyed playing with the Sublime Slime, which doesn't make a mess and was easy to get it out of my 5yr old's hair when her 7yr old sister decided it would be funny to put some in!

My only complaint though, was one of the advertised experiments on the box, the Forest Pourri, wasn't included in the instruction book or on the website.

Speaking of the website, their FAQ was very handy as we had trouble getting the perfume to turn into pulp which meant the perfumed water wasn't very scented  but the website was full of tips on how to get as much scent as you could and we will definitely try their tips next time we make it. The website also has a lot more information on the history of perfume making as well as the chemistry, physics and biology behind it. You can also download an extra set of instructions, just in case the booklet gets lost or damaged!

All in all a wonderful gift with lots off fun and different experiments and an ideal Christmas or birthday present for a loved one.

We were sent WILD! Science Perfume Laboratory for free on the understanding I would write an honest review of what I thought about the product. I received no payment and the review is my own honest and unbiased opinion of the product and I retain full editorial control and integrity.
